Why Noise Walls Fail at Night.
A noise wall is a physical solution for a visual problem. It stops people from seeing the dirt, but it cannot fence the air.
If you’ve spent your life in the pits, you’ve heard the truth: as the atmosphere cools, the roar of an engine doesn’t hit a concrete barrier and stop, it climbs. Through a process called Acoustic Refraction, sound waves bend over physical walls and land kilometers away, often sounding clearer at 1.2km than they did at the starting line.
This is the “Material Gap” that threatens the longevity of our sport. When a project relies on a physical wall to hide a visual problem, it leaves the gates vulnerable to noise injunctions from $295M residential developments and 1.2kms current residents.
