SURFERS PARADISE, GOLD COAST
Street circuits offer virtually zero margin for error, but the concrete corridors of Surfers Paradise proved particularly punishing this weekend as unpredictable squalls and heavy traffic disrupted Dylan O’Keeffe’s Porsche Carrera Cup Australia campaign.
Following torrential downpours across the Gold Coast 500 weekend, it was widely reported across the paddock that competitors and trackside personnel were questioning whether racing high-downforce machinery in severe standing water exceeded acceptable safety boundaries. With concrete barriers lining every centimetre of the 2.984 km circuit and spray blinding drivers on corner entry, reports from the garages highlighted growing concern over the balance between commercial spectacle and on-track hazard.
For O’Keeffe and the GWR Australia / RAM Motorsport squad, those conditions compounded an already uphill weekend. While O’Keeffe demonstrated competitive top-five pace during wet and dry practice sessions, race trim presented severe hurdles. A last-lap collision in Saturday's opening heat dropped him from eighth to 18th, followed by a shortened, safety-car-affected wet Race 2 where he fought through to finish ninth.
The weekend ended abruptly in Race 3 when unavoidable mid-pack contact punctured his radiator, forcing an instant DNF.
“I pride myself on consistent results and clean driving, but unfortunately, the Gold Coast Carrera Cup round didn’t deliver those outcomes over the weekend,” O’Keeffe stated in his post-event dispatch. “After finishing ninth in a shortened, wet Race 2, I tried to race through the field from 11th in Race 3 but made contact with another competitor, resulting in a damaged radiator and a DNF.”
While it was reported trackside that several operations faced mounting repair bills and volatile conditions, O’Keeffe focused squarely on the upcoming season finale.
“Not a weekend I’ll remember fondly, but we’ll move on to the final round in Adelaide, where we’ll be aiming to find some qualifying speed, finish the season on a high note and carry some momentum into 2027,”O’Keeffe said.
With the Gold Coast behind them, O’Keeffe, RAM Motorsport, and GWR Australia now head to the streets of Adelaide for the 2026 season finale, hungry to trade bad luck for the silverware their work ethic deserves.
