Standing on Heritage Grounds: The Brisbane Exhibition Speedway.
This machine was built to represent the intersection of past and present technology. NDC exists to document this evolution, ensuring our heritage grounds the future of the sport. It’s not just about racing, it’s about the technology and culture that defines us.
There is a weight to this dirt. For over 100 years, “Machinery Hill” was the heartbeat of Brisbane. Thousands of families sat here, generation after generation, watching legends be made.
In 2025, I curated the Speedway Exhibition at the Ekka, representing my family’s legacy. This work was completed into a published book “Big Bad Johno” and distributed to the Queensland State Library and the National Museum to permanently preserve our grassroots motorsport heritage. I was the first in history to formally honour the 12+ lives lost on this dirt and the history, creating the new Golden Plaque to ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten.
Through this process, I have supported the families of the “Golden Years” and collected hundreds of data points and oral histories. These aren’t just memories, they are the Forensic Proof of our Social License.
As the successor to the Ron “Big Johno” Johnson legacy, I don’t just see a landmark when I look at this hill. As the daughter of a man who served in the Royal Australian Navy during WWII and promoted the sport on ALL divisions, I know that honour isn’t just a word, it’s a Foundation.
You can build new tracks and design state-of-the-art facilities, but you cannot manufacture the SOUL of a sport that has lived in the hearts of Queenslanders since 1923.
We aren’t just “showing up” to the dirt. We are standing on a century of heritage that says: We belong here. NDC exists to ensure that as the landscape changes, our 2 and 3-wheeler history isn’t just a memory, it’s a Statutory Shield. We are here to document the total industry legacy, ensuring every discipline has a verified seat at the table for the next 100 years.
Drilled the Foundation. Roots cased. This legacy is storm proof.
