TOOWOOMBA, QLD
September 27, 2026 — Terrifying scenes erupted live on Clay-per-View during the Sprintcar B-Main on the final night of Thunder on the Downs at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway when a heavy collision sent Mick Saller (#56) into a violent rollover that instantly burst into flames.
Following a mid-race incident between Saller (#56) and Jessie Attard (#NS53), Saller’s chassis flipped hard and landed on its side against the clay bank, igniting a dangerous methanol fuel fire around the cockpit.
Demonstrating incredible courage under extreme pressure, Attard climbed from his car, sprinted alongside the track fire crew directly into the intense heat, and helped drag Saller out of the burning vehicle.
Both drivers walked away from the incident, with Attard and the track emergency safety personnel receiving widespread praise across the broadcast for their swift, heroic action.
Broadcast replays captured the high-stakes intensity of the rescue, showing an initial flashover when high-pressure fire suppression agents met the pooling fuel, briefly enlarging the blaze before crew members and Attard successfully suppressed the flames and cleared the cockpit. Following the crash, community commentary also pointed out technical observations regarding fire response techniques, noting that dry chemical extinguishers are needed for a quick initial knockdown on active fuel fires before applying foam to create a blanket.
