Defending the True Soul and Legacy of Grassroots Motorsport

MORETON BAY REGION, QLD

Nomad Dirt Culture has issued an official statement regarding the current public discourse surrounding the future of grassroots motorsport in the Moreton Bay Region.

As the final public submission deadline closes, Nomad Dirt Culture founder Jocelyn Johnson-Dare has stepped forward to address the local community, separate the sport's 100+year legacy from the reckless actions of a toxic minority and extend a formal hand of respect to local residents and elders.

The Official Statement

The bad behaviour of a few individuals does not define the whole of our sport.

It has brought me great sadness recently to see how cruel and inconsiderate some people can be toward others. But I want to make one thing absolutely clear: those aggressive actions are a reflection of who they are. They do not represent a single drop of who we are as a professional motorsport community.

At one point in Australian history, our sport was bigger than rugby or any other discipline. It is devastating when the reckless conduct of a few stains a 100+year legacy.

I created this video because ever since I launched Nomad Dirt Culture, I have witnessed the true soul, passion, and overwhelming kindness of this community. When I started, I felt like an alien, regardless of my late father's legacy. Yet, this industry opened its arms and welcomed me anyway.

I remember freezing trackside during my first night at Toowoomba Speedway and a Sprintcar team unhesitatingly handed me a free merch hoodie just to keep me warm. When I flew down to Mildura for the Sidecar Championships, people I barely knew offered me lifts and even lent me a vehicle to drive around. And so much more kindness that was given by this community.

That is who we are.

I have always believed that true leadership requires kindness and consideration. It is completely okay if someone holds a different perspective than you. True courage is standing in the room and trying to understand their view, even if you don't agree with it.

To the local residents and the elders of the Moreton Bay Region, I want to extend my hand directly to you and offer my deepest apologies for the hostility you've experienced from some corners. Your perspective matters and your voices deserve respect.

Our sport has a beautiful, caring and professional side. I only hope that through my lens, you can finally begin to see it”.
