PERTH, WA
In a major development for Australian drag racing, veteran administrator and motorsport figure Ray Treasure has officially announced his resignation from his position at Perth Motorplex, bringing a sudden end to his latest stint at the premier West Australian venue.
Treasure, who has dedicated more than 50 years of his life to drag racing, shared the news in a candid public statement, describing the decision as one of the hardest he has ever had to make.
A Vision Interrupted
Treasure revealed that his return to the Motorplex came during a challenging period for the venue. Despite initial internal friction, he chose to step back into the role driven by overwhelming support from local racers, team crews and track officials.
His primary goal upon returning was to stabilize the sport and mentor a younger successor to carry Perth Motorplex into the future. However, Treasure stated that a lack of organizational support and key decisions being made behind closed doors made his position untenable.
"I have become increasingly concerned that discussions and decisions regarding our racing calendar and events have been taking place without my knowledge or involvement," Treasure stated. "As a result, I no longer feel I am able to make a meaningful contribution to the direction and future of drag racing at the Perth Motorplex."
Immediate Departure
Adding to the tension surrounding the announcement, Treasure confirmed that despite offering to stay on to ensure an orderly handover and assist in documenting track operational processes, his offer was turned down—and he was asked to leave the venue immediately.
Despite the abrupt exit, Treasure expressed deep gratitude to the drag racing community that has backed him throughout his five-decade career.
"To the racers, officials, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who has supported me over the years, thank you. It has been an honour to serve a sport that has given me so much."
