Global Track Racing Mourns the Passing of World & European Champion Romano Hummel (1999–2026)

BRISBANE, QLD / INTERNATIONAL

The international motorcycle track racing fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the sudden passing of Dutch racing sensation and 2021 FIM Long Track World Champion, Romano Hummel, aged 27.

Renowned across Europe and the global dirt oval landscape for his fearless flat-out style, flamboyant machine control, and trademark wrist fringes, Hummel stood as one of the finest natural talents modern track racing has produced. Over a career spanning more than two decades, the rider from Hoogkerk rose through the junior ranks to become a dominant force on the world stage.

Hummel reached the pinnacle of individual competition in 2021 when he was crowned FIM Long Track World Champion. His championship resume grew to include three Individual European Grasstrack Championship titles (2022, 2023, and 2026) alongside multiple FIM Team World Championships with the Netherlands national team, cementing his legacy among the sport’s elite performers.

Across the European continent, heartfelt tributes from clubs, promoters, and governing bodies have reflected the profound shock of his loss.

In an official public bulletin, leading European track racing outlet Baansportfansite.nl shared the grief felt across the sport’s heartland:

"With great sadness, we have learned of the passing of Romano Hummel. We are losing not only a great grass track racer, but also someone who, with his passion for the sport, has provided many beautiful moments and memories along the track. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and everyone who loved him. We wish them all the strength in this great loss."

A club that shared a deep, personal connection with Hummel throughout his career, MC Eenrum & Omstreken, expressed their devastation:

"Words fall short after the unexpected news of the death of Romano Hummel. On behalf of the board and all members of MC Eenrum & Omstreken, we express our deepest condolences. Our thoughts are with the family, the bereaved, and all who loved him."

His presence on the start line and his contributions to world motorcycle racing will never be forgotten.
