This week, the Australian motorcycle community lost an absolute giant. Janice Edna Blizzard OAM has completed her final lap at the age of 86.
Jan didn't just participate in the sport; she anchored it for seven decades.
The Heart of St George and the Trackside Smile
For a staggering 60 years, Jan served as the secretary for the St George Motorcycle Club. Generations of riders came and went, but Jan was the constant force keeping the club moving forward.
If you ever went to a race meeting across New South Wales back in the golden eras of the sport, you knew Jan. She was a permanent fixture at iconic venues we hold close to our hearts:

No matter how intense the race-day pressure got, Jan was trackside with a constant smile, handling the chaos of grassroots racing with ease.
A Twin Legacy of Racing Royalty
Jan is now reunited with her late husband, Arthur Blizzard, the former boss of the ACU of NSW (now Motorcycling NSW). Together, Arthur and Jan were absolute motorsport royalty. They didn't do it for fame or money—they did it out of pure, unfiltered love for two-wheel racing.
In 2023, Jan received the national recognition she earned a thousand times over, being awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the King's Birthday Honours.
From the NDC Vault: "The riders take the checkered flag, but it’s people like Jan Blizzard who built the flag poles. We are proud to hold the archives of the sport she dedicated her life to, ensuring her 70-year shift is never forgotten by the next generation of dirt and bitumen racers."
