The Sunstate Speedway Karts have spent the morning tearing up the track, getting the dirt beautifully rubbered in for the massive night ahead. But the real magic of today started way before the sun even came up. Walking through the grounds, you see the swags rolled up, the caravans parked and families who spent the night right here at the track just to be up and ready at the crack of dawn.
That is what grassroots motorsport is all about. It’s mums, dads and kids turning wrenches together in the cold morning air, fueled by nothing but coffee and a shared obsession with speed. This community doesn’t just show up to race, they live it. They pour every spare dollar, every late night and every ounce of their passion into the sport they love.
Right now, the heavy haulers are rolling through the gates and the pits are a hive of activity with the clatter of air guns and the rumble of sedan engines warming up. The food trucks are firing up the grills, the spectator gates open at 2:00 PM, and that early 3:40 PM start time is creeping up fast.
If you’re still at home, it’s time to pack the ute, grab your camp chairs and get down to Gatton Showgrounds. We’re here to support the sport. We’re here to support the heritage of Australian Motorsport.
