“My parents took me as a baby in the early 50s and our family barely missed a Saturday night there until its closure.” - from a spectators memory.
Found memories like this are the beating heart of our community. They are passed down through four generations of riders, drivers, volunteers and spectators who grew up under the stadium lights, breathing in the dirt and methanol.
At the 2025 Ekka Show, Jocelyn Dare proudly displayed her self-published book of Speedway Heritage, opening the floor to nearly 600,000 people for the public to share their raw, real histories. Out of all the archives collected, this specific memory captured our hearts completely.
The iconic Brisbane Exhibition Speedway officially marks 100 years of history on the 17th of October 2026 this year. Alongside Davies Park, these sacred grounds hold the very core DNA of Queensland motorsport heritage in Brisbane.
To the outside world, it’s just a dirt oval. To our community, this is not just a sport, it is a living, breathing Art Form that must be preserved, remembered and protected for the generations still to come.
