STEVE RAYMOND
Published: 31st May 2026, Brisbane.

While the nation remembers him as a towering television director, three-time Logie winner and two-time Walkley Award recipient for investigative journalism, the grassroots racing community honours him as one of the definitive architectural voices of Australian speedway.

Starting his broadcasting journey as a teenager in the 1960s, Steve spent over 60 years elevating the cultural footprint of the sport. From the iconic dirt track of the Sydney Showground to legendary venues like Westmead, Liverpool City Raceway, Newcastle Motordrome and Parramatta City Raceway, his commentary immortalised generations of racing pioneers.

Steve Raymond did not just report on our heritage, he codified its significance, proving that grassroots motorsport is a vital piece of the Australian cultural fabric.
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Sue, his daughter Steffi and the Raymond family. Thank you for your profound contribution to our sport. Your legacy will be remembered.

Rest in Peace Steve Raymond OAM
