TOOWOOMBA, QLD
Motorsport is a game of ruthless margins, and Heat 4 of the Sprintcar action at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway served as a brutal reminder during the final night of Thunder on the Downs.
Putting on a absolute clinic on the high-banked clay, Henry Titman (#Q59) piloted his Axiom / Cush graphic sprintcar through the field, setting a blistering 11.811-second lap on lap five and mounting a relentless pursuit for the lead. Titman pushed winner Dylan Menz (#Q46) to the absolute limits, crossing the line just 0.487 seconds behind in a dramatic nose-to-tail finish.
While Menz took the victory and Titman secured a brilliant runner-up drive, the real heartbreak of Heat 4 unfolded on the final stretch.
Aaron Kelly (#Q7), who had clocked the fastest overall lap of the heat with an 11.501, was charging hard toward the checkered flag. Almost on the homestretch and within sight of the line, disaster struck as the right-front tire on the #Q7 machine blew out—instantly destroying his podium run and dropping him to 9th position in an agonizing finish.
Luke Stirton (#N10) rounded out the top three, finishing 2.603 seconds back, closely trailed by Harry Stewart (#Q96) in fourth and Michael Saller (#N56) in fifth.
Capturing the raw power and motion of Toowoomba's high-banked clay is veteran lensman Andy Ticehurst Media, whose trackside photojournalism continues to document Queensland’s premier motorsport events with unmatched clarity.
