TURNING THE CORNER: MITCHELL ROCK & THE ‘FLYING PUMPKIN’ FIND THEIR RHYTHM AT MARYBOROUGH SPEEDWAY

MARYBOROUGH, QLD

Sprintcar racing on slick, slippery clay is an unforgiving mental chess game. When the track dries out and the grip disappears, finding the razor-thin line between wheelspin and forward momentum comes down to setup, feel, and driver confidence.

At Maryborough Speedway, Mitchell Rock and the Becky Boo Racing crew faced that exact test head-on behind the wheel of the iconic bright-orange Rock Roofing NQ 92, affectionately known trackside as the "Flying Pumpkin".🎃

Proudly sporting the Nomad Dirt Culture sticker as they backed it into the corners, the team made major strides toward unlocking the car's full potential on a challenging, technical surface.

MAPPING THE SLICK: DIALING IN THE NQ 92

Navigating the steep learning curve of a new Crew Chief role on slick, unpredictable tracks is no small feat. After two meetings dominated by slippery conditions, the focus at Maryborough was simple: read the clay, listen to the driver, and dial in a setup that matches Mitchell’s driving style.

The team turned a massive corner as the night unfolded. Mitchell began coming to grips with how the NQ 92 reacts under race conditions, gaining crucial seat time, confidence, and feedback through the steering wheel.

By the end of the feature, the baseline was set: the driver was feeling happy, the car was hooked up, and the hard work in the pits was paying dividends.

NEXT STOP: TOOWOOMBA SPEEDWAY

With the Maryborough data logged and momentum on their side, Becky Boo Racing now turns its sights to Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway this coming Saturday to start the process all over again.

The team also extended high praise across the pit paddock, sending congratulations to Sean Black for capturing the SSA Super Sedan Queensland Title (Q1), as well as Jy Corbett for claiming the 410 Sprintcar A-Main win at Sydney Speedway ahead of the upcoming Australian Sprintcar Title at Toowoomba in November.
