VALE TERRY "MOOSE" MCGOWAN: HONOURING A TRUE PILLAR OF MILDURA SPEEDWAY HERITAGE

Terry ‘Moose’ McGowan - a beloved Dad, Husband, Poppy and FarFar.

The Australian grassroots motorsport community is mourning the loss of a legendary figure whose hands, heart, and passion shaped the very landscape of local racing. Terry “Moose” McGowan, a deeply respected, valued and cherished member of the Mildura Motorcycle Club, has passed away.

Moose was the definition of grassroots dedication. He wasn't just a face in the pit lane; he was woven into the literal fabric of Olympic Park Speedway. Contributing countless hours over decades, he served the sport with fierce loyalty as both a competitive rider and a tireless volunteer.

A gifted signwriter by trade, Moose’s artistic craftsmanship gave Olympic Park its visual identity. Many of his signs remain proudly displayed throughout the venue today—standing as a beautiful, lasting monument to his dedication, his precision, and his unyielding commitment to his club. It is this exact spirit of quiet, passionate craftsmanship that builds the backbone of Australian speedway culture.

Beyond his immense volunteer work, Moose’s legacy burns brightly through his family. He took immense pride in watching his son, Travis, forge a tremendous, high-profile international speedway career on the world stage. More recently, his greatest joy was seeing the family tradition charge forward, watching his grandchildren begin their own motorcycle journeys and turn their first competitive laps on the Mildura dirt.

Echoes from the Trackside Community

The immediate outpouring of respect from those who stood trackside with him over the decades speaks volumes about the man he was. The speedway family has come together to remember a bloke who was far more than just a volunteer.

Reflecting on his life and character, local supporters and longtime speedway attendees shared their reflections:

"A true legend on and off the track, and a great person to have known."

"He was a real nice bloke. He has definitely left his mark on the world."

For many families who grew up on the terraces, Moose was an permanent fixture of their racing memories. Another longtime speedway regular, reflecting on their time spent at the track since the 1990s, remembered him simply as a "sincere, great guy."

Keeping the Stories Alive
