The 2026–2027 South East Queensland Sprintcar season ignited at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway for the opening night of 'Thunder on the Downs'. Michael Stewart launched a ruthless assault in time trials, stopping the clock at a blistering 10.763 seconds to claim Quick Time in the NS #14 Bohud Racing Triple X machine.

Heading into the two-night season opener, the Bohud Racing team signalled their intentions on Facebook, noting that Toowoomba has historically been a "happy hunting ground for the Bohud Racing team" as the Losi and Illawarra Truck Repairs & Spares supported pilot aimed to be "amongst the front-running contenders".

Stewart delivered immediately, leading a 34-car field where less than half a second blanketing the top seventeen machines and under a single second separating the top 30 qualifiers.
